Fixed blades can be a little more difficult to carry around, and you are going to need a sheath. However, they can be easier to sharpen, and they look very cool. The folding type is easier to carry around, but more difficult to sharpen. With a folding type, you are also going to need to make sure it has a very good lock mechanism. You do not want the blade to slip while you are cutting something and cause an injury.
You will be able to find high quality tactical knives in a lot of different places. Make sure you get one that has a very dependable grip; you do not want something that is slippery or that gets slippery when wet. Also make sure you get a very good blade, and you will be happy with your choice of knife. Tactical knives are even becoming so popular, you are going to have numerous people that collect them; especially those early issued military styles.
