When it comes to metal detecting hunts the question is continuously ‘Where do I hunt for treasures?’ In hunting for valuables you may also detect some other treasures such as the rich history of a location, the exercise you are getting or the relaxation of being in the outdoors. From understanding a sites history to actually locating a hidden treasure, metal detectorists must keep in mind the entire detecting process. A successful treasure hunting day can be made by following a few suggestions.
Places where town people gathered together or long forgotten trails that have been overgrown are examples of places that are perfect for hunting treasure. Although these trails may be terribly hard to locate, they are worth the time to find them. The simplest way to find these hidden trails is to find archives kept at local churches or libraries. Coins, caches, and relics are just a few hidden artifacts that might be detected on old trails from long ago. Natives buried caches to come back to and recover but something happened to them, they were killed or got sick and never returned. Old guns or knives may also be found. Barns, tents, and churches were common areas for local gatherings and may have hidden treasures such as coins or forgotten relics.
Ending hunting areas are available to detectorist and the most important aspect is to think about where people of the past gathered. Basements, cellars, and even where clothe lines may have hung all may have hidden coins that have been dropped over the years. Finding shade from the blazing sun or playing tag around a tree would lead to a great place for detecting. Parks is alternative place where one can recover old coins even if it has been searched previously. Don’t forget to check out old railroad depots. Old churches are also a very good place to search and you will likely find some old coins. Even common day construction areas may give interesting finds that are no longer buried deep below the surface.
In city areas, consider road names that may give clues to a previous environment such as “grove” or “trail”. Don’t overlook the grassy areas between streets or new construction sites for detecting and locating valuable targets. Taverns or Inns frequented by a variety of people throughout the past can also hold hidden treasures.
All of these suggestions should get you pointed in the right direction for a successful hunt. Observe everything around you and visualize where people were to make your hunt worthwhile.
